Firearms complaints settled

CASTLETONCastleton’s Development Review recently helped settle a longstanding string of complaints between local gun and sporting goods dealer Dan Amrick and his neighbors. Some of the neighbors had complained of gunshots and explosions, concerns that Amrick had felt were exaggerated. Zoning administrator Jeff Biasuzzi will write a letter of mutual understanding, to be approved by the DBR and sent to Amrick. He must disallow shooting, legally post the land with No Trespassing signs and register them with the town clerk, post No Shooting signs, and inform his customers about the new policy.

Operating under the name United Trade, the business sells high-end, high-dollar firearms by appointment only and displays no signage. Nor does it sell ammunition or include a shooting range. As it is, police records note only four firecalls for explosions, gun shots or suspicious activity between January 2011 and March 2015. Each police visit records that officers spoke with Amrick at the time, according to Police Chief Peter Mantello.
