Sunday, May 17 at 10:30 a.m. — BARNARD — Both 5k and 10k options are available to racers (walkers and runners) participating in BarnArts Center for the Arts’ second annual “Race Around the Lake” on Sunday, May 17, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Silver Lake State Park in Barnard.
Over 120 racers participated in last year’s inaugural event that raised money for BarnArts youth programming: scholarships for BarnArts Summer Youth Theatre Institute, sponsorship of the BarnArts Teen Touring Company and the BarnArts Youth Chorale.
Racers will have the choice of walking or running the 5k race or running a 10k race. Both races begin at Silver Lake State Park with 5k runners departing at 10:30 a.m.; 5k walkers at 10:35 a.m.; and 10k runners at 10:40 a.m. All racers will be electronically timed by RFID tags for immediate and accurate timing results. All race routes are designed to lead racers and walkers along scenic paths and back roads, providing intermittent lake views.
A children’s fun run will follow the adult race and will take place on the waterfront.
Participants can preregister online at https://runsignup.com or follow the link at BarnArts.org. Registration includes race-day lunch provided by The Barnard Inn and live music by Matt Seiple of Woodstock. Registration is $35 for adults and $20 for children ages 6-12; the waterfront kids’ fun run is free.
