Vermont New Age publisher celebrates 40th anniversary

ROCHESTER—This year marks 40 years of independent publishing for Vermont-based  Inner Traditions Bear & Company. Founded by Ehud C. Sperling in 1975, Inner Traditions has established itself as a landmark publisher of books on new age spirituality, alternative health and more, with over 1,400 books in print.

Inner Traditions moved to Rochester, Vt., in 1986 because the owners felt it provided a community and setting well matched to the company’s values and aspirations. Inner Traditions is now one of the largest employers in the area.

Inner Traditions’ mission is to rediscover, preserve, and protect the spiritual traditions of the world. Books published by Inner Traditions and its imprints are distributed around the world and translated into dozens of languages. Well known authors include Zecharia Sitchin, Barbara Hand Clow, artist Alex Grey and Vermont herbalist Guido Masé.

Inner Traditions is committed to social responsibility in the Vermont community and beyond. Locally, the company generates power from solar panels on the roof of its office in Rochester and its solar farm in Randolph. Founder Ehud C. Sperling and his family are also actively involved in a 300-acre reforestation project in Costa Rica, the Hacienda Rio Coté project. This project is both supported and administered by Inner Traditions.
