Thursday, April 16 at 7 p.m. — RUTLAND — Murders targeting Jews in Europe have grabbed recent headlines. Even in the U.S., a model of diversity, anti-Semitism is on the rise. Why is this happening? And what does it mean to our society? To our world?
“The Resurgence of Anti-Semitism: A Panel Presentation and Community Discussion” will look at the issue from a variety of viewpoints. Join the discussion on Thursday, April 16 at 7 p.m. at Rutland Jewish Center, 96 Grove Street, Rutland. The event is free and open to everyone.
“Bigotry and anti-Semitism are everyone’s business,” says Rabbi Doug Weber of Rutland Jewish Center, who is also adjunct professor of philosophy at Castleton College and College of St. Joseph. “That’s why we put together a diverse panel of experts to examine this issue, which affects all of us — even here in Vermont.”
Panelists include Prof. Robert S. Schine, Professor of Jewish Studies at Middlebury College; Pastor Hannah Rogers of United Methodist Church in Rutland; and Adam Chill, Assistant Professor of European History at Castleton College. Rabbi Weber will be the moderator. Everyone will be welcome to join the discussion.
Members of the Rutland Area Interfaith Clergy Association will conduct a brief memorial service before the presentation to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day.
