Myra Peffer, director of the Wonderfeet Kids’ Museum, (center) accepts a check for $4,500 from Heritage Family Credit Union. The funds were raised from the second annual “Shiver Me Shamrocks” 5K run in Rutland, March 14.
For the second year in a row, the Heritage Family Credit Union sponsored the “Shiver Me Shamrocks” 5K run in Rutland to raise funds for the Wonderfeet Kids’ Museum. Mark Grossarth from HFCU was at the museum last Tuesday, March 31, to present a check for $4,500.
Myra Peffer, director of the Wonderfeet Kids’ Museum, said Tuesdays, “This is awesome. We are thrilled,” of receiving the donation. HFCU has committed to five years of sponsoring the Shiver Me Shamrocks 5K Run for the benefit of the museum. These funds will be used to build a mini credit union inside the museum, to help teach children about financial literacy. Children will be able to make withdrawals and deposits, and “spend” their money at other exhibits around the museum.
The Wonderfeet Kids’ Museum, located at 11 Center Street in downtown Rutland, is an inspiring space where children and their families can come to learn and play together. Full of hands-on, interactive displays and art activities, it is a place to “explore, create and imagine.”
Peffer was excited to tell us how well attended the museum has been. “We have budget where we needed to have 4,700 people thru the door for the year. We have already had close to 2,000 visitors since February!” she said.
On their busiest day so far this year, they had 193 visitors come through the door. Along with being a great place to bring your children, grandchildren or other special kids in your life, the museum offers birthday parties and celebrations, field trips for school groups and daycares, and educational programs where they bring “imagination challenges” directly to schools. Peffer has an assortment of large foam blocks, noodles and shapes that she can bring to pre-k through 2nd grade classrooms, for hands-on fun and learning.
