MENDON—The Red Clover Inn & Restaurant, a sophisticated inn and dining destination near Killington, has been honored by Vermont tourism industry peers for its locally-sourced cuisine, inspired cocktails and award-winning wine list, elegant atmosphere, support of the statewide tourism industry, and commitment to staff advancement and training.
The award was given to Ted Tyler and Pixley Tyler Hill — restaurateurs, longtime tourism industry icons and siblings–before a packed audience at the 32ndVermont Travel Industry Conference in Burlington. Accepting the award beside the Tylers were General Manager Jeff Towle, Marketing Manager Caitlin Portch, and Innkeeper Carol PetitBon. The Tylers also credit Chef David Coolidge, Sous Chef Mike Ryan, and Sommelier Thomas Meek with the restaurant’s success.
Upon receiving the award, Ted Tyler remarked, “The Red Clover Inn’s restaurant casts a spotlight upon the unique blend of friendship and hospitality that defines the Tyler and Hill families. Through our convivial atmosphere and reputation for excellence, we go beyond ‘local’ to thoroughly celebrate Vermont and Vermonters. Our anthem is that great food tastes even more delicious in the company of great people, and prepared and served by a wonderful staff.” The Inn and Restaurant are the namesake of the Vermont State Flower, which symbolizes Vermont’s commitment to agriculture and the open pasture land in which the red clover grows.
In submitting the nomination, Steve Costello, Vice President for Innovation and Customer Service at Green Mountain Power, cited the Red Clover Inn’s cozy, relaxing farmhouse ambiance and its superior service.
Recent years’ award winners include Eric Warnstedt of Hen of the Wood in Waterbury and Burlington, and Steve and Lara Atkins of the Kitchen Table Bistro in Richmond.
