Okemo to add lift-served mountain biking

LUDLOW – The arrival of spring invokes thoughts of warm-weather activities and Okemo Mountain Resort is planning to add lift-serviced mountain biking to its lineup of summer and fall amenities. Okemo’s South Ridge Quad A will provide access to more than three miles of trails in the resort’s Clock Tower base area as the first phase in the development of the Evolution Bike Park at Okemo.

“In our first season of lift serviced mountain biking at Okemo we will offer several miles of trails from the top of the lift and continuing on down through the base area,” said Okemo Mountain Resort Vice President and General Manager Bruce Schmidt. “Lift served mountain biking is a similar experience to skiing and allows the whole family to enjoy time on the trails together.  The trail network will be constructed utilizing the expertise of Christian Robertson and the team from the Evolution Bike Park in Crested Butte who have designed and built trails in Colorado and the new Dirt Serpent trail at Mount Sunapee Resort in New Hampshire.”

“Future plans for expansion are already in place. The A Quad at Okemo offers ideal terrain for the initial development of a bike park at Okemo,” said Christian Robertson, Evolution Bike Park Manager for Crested Butte Mountain Resort. “As the trail networks grow, there is an amazing opportunity to create lines that move through the stunning forests and utilize the natural rock to offer fun, challenging, and unique riding experiences here in the East, as we have done in Colorado. The long term goal is to allow a wide range of ages and ability levels to enjoy the progression of resort mountain biking, as well as create the venue to host premier mountain biking events in years to come.”

In addition to top-of-the-line mountain bike rentals, helmets and padding will be available for rent.  There will also be a mechanic on duty for all repair services. Daily maintenance will ensure the trails are in excellent shape and bike patrol will be riding the trails during operating hours.

The Evolution Bike Park at Okemo is slated to open July Fourth weekend. Pricing is still being determined with package-pricing options that include bike rentals and Adventure Zone access at Jackson Gore, as well as trail-access-only tickets for riders with their own bikes.
