Saturday, April 11 — RANDOLPH — Vermont Pride Theater at Chandler announced this week that auditions for its fifth annual summer pride theater festival will be held on the morning of Saturday, April 11, at Chandler Music Hall. Actors from ages 15 –51 are again needed for this festival, which will continue VPT’s tradition of presenting multi-generational plays all new to Vermont.
Auditioners should come with a monologue of up to three minutes, showing the range of their skills. For efficiency, they should call or e-mail ahead to set a time for their auditions. Walk-ins will be auditioned as time permits, but may have to wait.
Here is more information about the plays being considered:
– Jane Chambers’ 1979 play “A Late Snow:” Five women trapped in a cabin overnight, by an unseasonal snowfall, are confronted by relationship decisions. The author calls for a cast in their 20s to 40s, but has sometimes been cast older.
– Jonathan Harvey’s 1994 play “Beautiful Thing:” A coming-out story still relevant two decades after its premiere. The five-person cast includes three teens and two adults, one being old enough to parent teens.
– Terrence McNally’s 1995 play “Love! Valour! Compassion!” Eight men hash out their passions, resentments, and fears over three country weekends. The men are written as 20s though 40s, but have sometimes been cast older.
– Sarah Gubbins 2011 play “The Kid Thing:” The long friendship between two lesbian couples is rocked by news of a pregnancy, and the sperm donor. The author calls for four women and a man in their mid-30s.
Two plays for this summer’s festival will be selected from the four above, depending on the availability of actors. The others will be reconsidered for later presentation.
