The Fighting Saints men’s and women’s basketball teams headed to Uniontown, Penn., this week to play in the USCAA Division II national tournament. The men were able to get to the final four of the tournament, but lost to Berkeley-NYC in triple overtime. The women got to the final game and matched up against Penn-State Beaver, but lost by a score of 74-59. Both teams were able to win the YSCC conference title, along with numerous individual awards.
For the men, Dre Anderson was named first team All-Conference, and Kashean Alston was named to the USCAA All-Tournament team. For the women, Regina Steele was named USCAA Division II player of the year and first team All- American, Chontayvia Kennedy was named first team All-American, and Jazz Laracuente was named second team All-American.
Additionally, head women’s coach Chris Wood won the USCAA Coach of the Year award.
Thursday, March 5
The Fighting Saints men’s basketball team matched up against Central Penn and came out with a 93-92 victory, which sent them to the semi finals for the USCAA national tournament. Dre Anderson led the team with 29 points and 6 rebounds. The Lady Saints matched up against Penn-State Fayette and won by a score of 81-71; Regina Steele had 18 points to go along with 21 rebounds.
Friday, March 6
The Fighting Saints men took on Berkeley-NYC in the final four of the USCAA national tournament and lost 115-111 in triple overtime. Kashean Alston had 31 points and played all but one minute of the game. The Lady Saints were up against Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and won by a score of 72-64. Regina Steele had 21 points along with 11 rebounds, while Jazz Laracuente added 20 of her own.
Saturday, March 7
The Lady Saints took on Penn-State Beaver in the USCAA Division II national championship game and lost 74-59. Regina Steele had a triple-double with 13 points, 10 blocks, and 24 rebounds, while Chontayvia Kennedy led the team with 23 points.
