CSJ Senior Kashean Alston scored 16 points in the conference tournament championship game and was named Outstanding Defensive Player for the tournament.

Fighting Saints sweep conference basketball tournament

Thursday, Feb. 19

The Lady Saints defeated Me-Machias 78-34 in YSCC quarterfinals.

For the Saints, Jamie McLaughlin and Chontayvia Kennedy led in points with 12 each, while Shamari Brodhead contributed 11 points. McLaughlin also had 13 total rebounds.

Friday, Feb. 20

The Fighting Saints defeated Me-Augusta in YSCC quarterfinals.

The CSJ men began their tournament season with a 86-81 win. Dre Anderson led the Saints with 24, while Kashean Alston added 19 total points and 12 rebounds. The men advanced to conference semifinals with an 11-2 conference record.

Saturday, Feb. 21

The men’s team defeated Me-Machias in conference semifinals.

While five players contributed more than 10 points each, Dre Anderson led the Saints in scoring with 22 points. Kyle Houston added 12 points, while Kashean Alston, Josh McAfee, and Nolan Emory each contributed 11 points.

The Lady Saints defeated Me-Augusta 67-56 in conference semifinals.

Regina Steele led the Saints with 21 points and 17 rebounds. Chontayvia Kennedy contributed 17 points, while Jazz Laracuente and Jamie McLaughlin added 23 combined. Shaionica Speight also provided the Lady Saints with 10 rebounds.

Sunday, Feb. 22

The Lady Saints defeated Southern Maine CC, 72-67 and maintained an undefeated conference record while becoming YSCC champions.

Jazz Laracuente led the Saints with 18 points, while Chontayvia Kennedy and Regina Steele added 17 each. Steele also contributed 15 rebounds. Each of them also contributed 3 steals throughout the game.

Two Lady Saints were awarded special awards following the conference title win. Chontayvia Kennedy was named MVP, while Regina Steele was named Outstanding Defensive Player.

The men’s team pulled off an impressive victory in overtime to win the YSCC championship.

The Saints defeated Southern Maine CC 73-67 despite having only a seven point largest lead throughout the game. Steven Edwards led the Saints in scoring with 21 points. Kashean Alston added 16, while Kyle Houston contributed 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Two players from the men’s team were also awarded special awards following the win. Kashean Alston was named Outstanding Defensive Player, while Dre Anderson was named MVP.

Coming up

On to the USCAA National Tournament! The games will be held March 3-7 at Penn State Fayette.
