KILLINGTON—Saturday, Feb. 14, the Killington Ski Club and Killington Mountain School hosted National Club Day, as part of a nationwide event that celebrates USSA Development programs and clubs. This year’s celebration started with a welcome from head of school Tao Smith and a parade of program participants.

Development Program athletes showcased their skills in a variety of competitions and events throughout the morning. The Alpine group was on Highline, as were the Freestyle skiers, who hit the mogul course along with some members of the United States Ski Team. Big Mountain program participants ran duals on Highline, as well. The Killington Parks crew installed a park feature behind the ski club for the Snowboard and Freeski programs to use. The Killington Ski Club hosted a barbeque lunch, and at the end of the day, everyone gathered for awards and then a club social.

“It was a great opportunity, to come together, to celebrate winter sports, mountain life, and the kids. It was an awesome event!” Tao Smith said.

Killington Ski Club’s president Chris Clarke said, “It went awesome. It was a great day, with a great celebration, and we look forward to making it an annual tradition.” Development Program athlete xsSydney Bennett read a poem she wrote to a rapt audience, highlighting her recent diabetes diagnosis and mentioning Pico’s Downhill for Diabetes event. Clarke said, “You could hear a pin drop when Sydney was reading her poem. It was wonderful.”
