Saturday, Feb. 21 at 9 a.m. — RUTLAND — If you have a few maple trees and would like to learn the basics of making maple syrup in your backyard, then join the workshop on Saturday, Feb. 21, at 9 a.m. at 271 North Main Street (Route 7), at the Vermont Forests, Parks, and Recreation offices, located in the back of the building.
This workshop is intended for the beginner who would like to make syrup for their own use, however those with bigger plans can also benefit.
You will learn how to identify the right maple trees and assess their sap production potential, proper tapping practices, sap collection methods, boiling basics, and packaging of your syrup.
Instructors will demonstrate the commonly used equipment and tools, and finish up with a visit to an operating sugarbush and sugarhouse. The workshop will end at approximately 1 p.m.
Registration is free and pre-registration is required by Feb. 18.
