Two local women involved in head on collision on Route 4, alcohol considered a factor

KILLINGTON — On Jan. 26, at approximately 10:46 p.m., members of the Vermont State Police from the Rutland Barracks were advised of a head-on two vehicle crash with entrapment on US Route 4 East, in the town of Killington. Troopers arrived on scene, along with Killington Search and Rescue, Killington Fire and Rescue, and Regional Ambulance Service. The cause of the crash was determined to be that Cassie Reed, age 43 of Woodstock, crossed the double yellow median lines into oncoming traffic. Reed was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center for traumatic injuries.

The car Reed hit was driven by Eileen Generess, age 50 of North Clarendon. Generess was also transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center for traumatic injuries.

State Police investigation determined that Reed had been operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Reed provided a preliminary breath sample, which showed her current breath alcohol content to be at 0.157 percent. Reed was processed for DUI at this time.

Reed and Generess were the sole occupants of their respective vehicles. Both vehicles were traveling approximately 45-50 m.p.h.
