Saturday, Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. — RUTLAND — Celebrated pianist Gleb Ivanov will open the 7th annual “Passages at the Paramount” series on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. Ivanov was the second artist to appear in the first-ever Paramount Theatre Classical Music Series in February of 2008.
At his first New York recital in 2005 at Zankel Hall, pianist Gleb Ivanov was recognized as an important new presence in the music world. The New York Times wrote: Gleb Ivanov “is a cut above the usual, a young super-virtuoso, with musical sensitivity and an appreciation of style to go with the thunder and lightning.” His 2014-2015 season includes performances of Mendelssohn’s “Concerto No. 1” with the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes, Rachmaninoff’s “Rhapsody on a Theme” by Paganini with the Fort Smith Symphony, Chopin’s “Concerto No. 2” with the Johnstown Symphony, and Tchaikovsky’s “Concerto No. 1” with the Charlottesville Symphony at the University of Virginia. He also appears in return engagements at the Paramount Theatre, Tannery Pond Concerts, Sunday Musicale, and with the Taos Chamber Music Group.
A sought-after concerto soloist, Mr. Ivanov performs a wide range of concerto repertoire, from Mozart to Rachmaninoff and has appeared with orchestras including the Symphony Orchestras of Missouri, Johnstown, West Michigan, Eastern Connecticut, South Bend, Westmoreland, Southwest Florida, Peoria, Knoxville, Dearborn, Las Cruces, Grand Rapids, Springfield and Napa Valley, the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra and the Colorado Springs Philharmonic.
Adored in Paris, he has been re-engaged four times by the Louvre Museum for specially requested all-Schubert and all-Chopin concerts. Mr. Ivanov has also been frequently re-engaged by Princeton University, The Paramount Theater in Vermont, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, “Pianofest” in East Hampton, Bargemusic in New York City, and at Fishers Island Concerts.
In recognition of impressive career achievement, Ivanov was awarded the Michaels Award of Young Concert Artists, which brought his Lincoln Center recital debut at Alice Tully Hall and a rave review in The New York Times. His program of Russian repertoire included works by Prokofiev and the Rachmaninoff Cello Sonata with New York Philharmonic principal cellist Carter Brey (YCA Alumnus) as his guest.
