Cub Scout pack brings comfort to cancer patients

RUTLAND – Members of West Rutland Cub Scout Pack #116 along with Cubmaster Chip Reed and Danielle Sweeney recently delivered bags of comfort to cancer patients at the Foley Cancer Center. The troop collected a variety of items including handmade knit hats, headphones, mints and fleece blankets made by the troop to fill special totes donated by Brooke Trepanier, a local distributor of ThirtyOne Bags, and other donors. The donated bags were part of a fundraiser in honor of Jason Allen, a Rutland County Sheriff who recently lost his battle with cancer.

West Rutland Cub Scout Pack #116 has 19 boys in various stages of scouting and look for opportunities for the pack to learn, build character, develop personal fitness and give back to the community.  “So many people in the community face the challenges of cancer,” said Cubmaster Chip Reed “The troop really wanted to help.”

“Gifts like this are important on so many levels,” said Rick Lovett, MD.  “The kindness shared through this project will be appreciated by our patients and the young men learn so much about helping others.”
