Saturday, Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m. — WEST RUTLAND — Nothing bothers West Rutland School music teacher and singer-songwriter Phil Henry more than the expression, “Those who can, do; those who can’t, teach.” Henry refutes that old adage when he celebrates the release of his new album, “Aberdeen,” in a free concert at the West Rutland Town Hall on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m.
Although Phil Henry has been a music teacher at West Rutland School for the past 11 years, he has simultaneously been developing a career as a performing singer-songwriter. In the evenings, he has has devoted his time to writing and recording original, contemporary folk music in his home studio, and on the weekends and summers has traveled across the Northeast performing them live. In the time he has been the choral instructor at West Rutland School, he has released three albums, and performed at coffeehouses, house concerts, radio shows, and festivals all over the Northeast U.S., and even appeared twice at a folk festival in Kerrville, TX. “The same passion I have for music fuels both the gigs and my teaching,” says Henry. His live act features the Phil Henry Acoustic Trio, made up of Henry on acoustic guitar and vocals, Gary Moon on djembe, cajon, shakers, and harmony vocals, and Jeff Kimball on piano, mandolin, accordion, and harmony vocals.
The West Rutland Town Hall is located at the corner of Main Street and Marble Street in West Rutland, and is wheelchair accessible from the Marble Street entrance. It is a free concert, with light refreshments and coffee available. Phil’s recordings, as well as CDs from all of the musicians, will be available for sale.
