Killington community helps visitor search for lost dog

By Polly Lynn

KILLINGTON — J.D. (short for Just Dog) is a 5-year-old yellow lab who ran away from his ski house on Dean Hill Road in Killington on New Year’s Eve after being spooked by fireworks. He has been spotted at least twice since his disappearance; once on Jan. 1 and again on Jan. 3. The latter time he was seen running on Route 4, headed towards Route 100 near the Val Rock motel at 8 a.m.

J.D. is wearing a blue collar and is very shy, says owner Kimberly Parker who lives in Boston but has stayed up in Killington to continue the search.

Humane traps have been set at strategic locations but the first night-time check of traps showed no indication he had been near them yet. He is hungry and has, reportedly, been rummaging in garbage around businesses.

Parker requests that anyone who sees him call her immediately, and not to yell at him or chase him as he’ll flee. J.D. is, however, very motivated by food, so treats are good, she says, adding “please do not remove him from a trap if you come upon him in one of them.” The search will continue until he is found, she says.

The people of Killington have been incredibly supportive both on the ground and in offering advice and concern, the Parker family reports.

Kimberly Parker is offering a $300 reward if someone finds him. She can be reached at 508-308-9682 or kimberlyclaireparker@gmail.com.
