He clocked 127 days on snow last season, can 7-year-old Max Landon do it again?

By Robin Alberti

On Nov. 3, the day Killington opened for the 2014-2015 season, The Mountain Times caught up once again with Max Landon while he was having lunch in the peak lodge with his Dad, Chris. The now seven-year-old home-schooled student from New Hampshire clocked 127 days shredding last season, blowing away his goal of 100 days.

Max Landon told The Mountain Times that he didn’t stop thinking about snowboarding even in the summer. “I went to a snow boarding camp,” Landon said. It was his first sleepover camp. He was able to continue making turns at an indoor training center in Virginia on a synthetic surface designed to simulate snow.

“You could sort of carve in it,” he said. “I was still able to make turns.”

He also described a backyard project he worked on with his Dad.

“We made a ‘Bill-Hilly Fun Park,’” he said with a big smile. “You know, like the Hill Billy Fun Park, but for skateboarding and snowboarding tricks.”

Chris and Max Landon built park features at their house in Surry, N.H. to practice — sounds like fun father-son bonding!

For the upcoming season, Chris Landon passed the training to become a certified ski patroller and Max plans to race again for Okemo. Hopefully Chris can keep on his feet and out of the hospital this year!
