Catwalk for a Cause showcased local style

By Polly Lynn

Over 500 people filled the seats at the Paramount Theatre in Rutland, Sunday afternoon for the second annual Catwalk for a Cause benefitting the United Way of Rutland County. Additionally, 105 models wore collections from nine retailers complete with hair and make-up done by area stylists. Each collection showcased the best of this year’s fashion as the models strutted down the runway to dance club jams.

“It is a community collaboration for a great cause,” said event organizer Kelly Logan of Five Elements Salon and Day Spa prior to the show.

Three awards were presented from a panel of judges with experience in the modeling industry:

Best overall went to Cabi; Most Creative was awarded to McNeil and Ready; and People’s Choice (via text voting) was won by Raw Honey and Fruition.

The event raised over $10,000 for the United Way.

Raw Honey, a local boutique on Center Street, presented the first collection of the show: “A November to Remember.” Deja New, a classy, secondhand clothing store, was up next with their collection: “Vint Edge.” A Trace of Lace and Penguin Jacks had models donning wedding dresses that shimmered and sparkled down the runway for their “At the Alter” collection.

Then McNeil & Reedy’s men modeled a fashionable collection called “Downtown Street Wear.” Loosey Goosey clothesline at Mr. Twitters showcased a line called “Dress It Up, Dress It Down.” And Basin Sports of Killington changed it up with outdoor wear with “Ski and Snowboard Resorts.” Cabi, independent consultants, put out the “Trend Report” and Fruition wrapped up with “Baby it’s Cold Outside: Winter Collection.”

Amber Stone, of Z97.1, and Bill Ackerman, of Green Mountain Marketing & Advertising, emceed the show providing details of each collection for the audience. Stone was in a rhinestone ball-gown from Trace of Lace and Ackerman sported a tuxedo from McNeil and Ready.
