Saturday, Nov. 1 at 4 p.m. — POULTNEY — Poultney Fire Department, a 125-year-old department of Poultney citizen volunteers, has been selected to receive the 2014 Poultney Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award.
The public is cordially invited to join the Chamber in honoring Poultney Fire Department’s present and past member volunteers at a public reception to be held on Saturday, Nov. 1 from 44 – 6 p.m. in the firehouse of Poultney Fire Department, 263 Beaman Street, Poultney. Light hors d’ oeuvres and celebration cake will be served. The reception will be co-hosted with the Chamber by the Town of Poultney. All are welcome.
Each year for the past 125 years, the volunteer members of Poultney Fire Department can be counted on to respond to a number of incidents that require a quick and safe response to protect life and property. Last year alone, the Department responded to 164 service calls ranging from structure fires to motor vehicle accidents to mutual aid calls.
The Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award, presented annually since 1990 by the Poultney Chamber, honors resident citizens having made major contributions to the betterment of Poultney; who has distinguished themselves through outstanding service to the community and typifies the true spirit of service and self-sacrifice in representing the finest ideals of Poultney citizenship – a real “unsung hero.” The Citizen of the Year will be the Grand Marshal of the 2015 July 4 parade in Poultney.
