Join VINS for a Halloween family celebration

Saturday, Oct. 25 at 10 a.m. — QUECHEE — The Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS) invites both children and adults to Hoots & Howls, a seasonal fall event on Saturday, Oct. 25 at the VINS Nature Center in Quechee. This fun, educational and exciting Halloween event is an all-day affair, beginning at 10 a.m. and ending at 8 p.m.

The day will start off with a Halloween Science Experiment at the Nature Nook at 10:15 a.m., followed by Cold Blooded Critters from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. The rest of the day will include a hike through the past, storytelling, music and dance performances.Guest appearances in the afternoon include well-known local storyteller Michael Caduto, capturing audience attention with “Flying Turtles & Talking Bears: Animal Adventure Tales” and Raq-on Dance artists who will perform an exciting dance drawing inspiration from VINS’ winged residents. Peeps and Squeaks, an event tailored specifically for young children, will take place from 4:30-5:30 p.m. with Halloween-themed activities and stories as well as a live animal encounter.

Not to be missed,VINS’ 10th annual, fun-filled Hoots & Howls event will include guided tours, from 5:30-8 p.m., to visitors of all ages throughout the VINS Nature Center along trails lit by jack-o-lanterns with frequent stops to enjoy storytelling, live animals, skits, and more. This year will also feature the Hartford High School Music Department cast of “Crazy for You” performing as dancing mice and owls. Wrap up the evening with tasty tricky treats and a chance to encounter a bird up close. All are invited to dress in their Halloween best!

Admission is free for VINS members. Admission for non-members for the day and evening is $13 for adults; $11 for youth (ages 4-17); and for children 3 and under admission is free.
