KES participates in regional spelling bee

KILLINGTON—You could hear a pin drop as selected students from Windsor Central Supervisory Union (WCSU) competed in their annual WCSU spelling bee at Woodstock Union High School’s Teagle Library on Friday, Oct. 10.

Words such as “depth” and “lieutenant” were among the many challenges that student competitors faced.

Sixth grader Wilbur Abrams and fifth graders Taylor Blodorn, Evan Joaquin, Alex Martell, Maria Sell, and their teacher and coach Allison Naugle represented Killington Elementary School well.The Killington team congratulates Woodstock Elementary School on its first place finish.

Rotarians donate dictionaries

Thank you to the Killingon/Pico Rotarians for donating beautiful new dictionaries to each child in our third grade. The children learned very quickly that the dictionaries contain a wealth of other important information besides words and definitions: countries, flags, U.S. presidents, and much more.

KES Student Council elects new officers

Congratulations to the following newly elected officers to the KES student council: president Taylor Crompton, vice president Adelaide O’Keefe, recorder Hannah Black and treasurer Meredith Rieger. Thank you to third grade teacher Kate Carey for acting as the KES Student Council Advisor again this year.

Class will offer help for parent-child relationships

Bridgewater Village School is hosting a FREE 8-week parenting class with Sarah D. Stearns, Ph.D., assistant professor of psychiatry and pediatrics at Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine. This class is “for parents who wish to reduce conflict at home, improve parental consistency and improve children’s compliance with adult directives.” The class begins Tuesday Oct. 14, 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. at Bridgewater Village School Library. Free childcare is included. If interested, please call Jillian Stevens, BVS Counselor, at 672-3464.

Castleton mentors return

Also…back for their fourth year, Castleton State College (CSC) mentors will be returning this year to run their popular Friendship Groups Project. This consists of one lunch/recess period per week for up to 8 weeks, during which CSC mentors facilitate social groups with KES students on topics of cooperation, team work, and friendship skills.
