Saturday, Oct. 11 at 10 a.m. — QUECHEE — On Saturday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., VINS will host Radical Raptor Rendezvous, an exciting day of discovery delving into the world of raptors. From epic migrations to conservation success stories, to the role that these marvelous creatures play in culture and art, join us in exploring all things raptor related. Renowned bird carver Floyd Scholz will speak about his love of art and passion for raptors and will also sign his new book Peregrine Falcon. At 1 p.m., Scholz will begin a presentation entitled “A Love of Art; A Passion for Raptors,” with a question-and-answer session and book signing to follow. Another artist joining the Rendezvous is Bryan Stone, who will demonstrate his sketching skills for all to view. He will perform ongoing demonstrations of raptor sketching from 1 – 5 p.m. The day will include games and crafts and lots of live bird encounters. Plus, you can try your eye in our raptor ID challenge. So, prepare to be awed by these awesome aerialists.
Floyd Scholz is universally recognized as one of the preeminent woodcarvers and painters in the world today. During the past 30 years, he has enjoyed tremendous success as a professional artist, author, teacher and musician. A former NCAA National Champion, Scholz is a 2005 World Master’s Best in Show champion. As the author of five award-winning books on raptors, Floyd’s passion for birds and love of art has been shared with generations of bird lovers and artists worldwide. In the Spring of 2014, Floyd was recognized as one of bird carving’s living legends by the Ward Foundation World Championships. Bryan Stone is a freelance illustrator and cartoonist who lives in Vermont with his wife and daughter. He graduated from the Center for Cartoon Studies, White River Junction, VT, in 2008. Bryan has made comics and illustrations for a variety of publishers and places including Nomad Press, Seven Days, Dartmouth College and Bash! Magazine.
