Tundra instructors will teach participants how to respond to health emergencies and provide basic first aid for the four-legged members of their families. Practice and preparation will help participants be calm and effective in an emergency, protecting people and pets from further injury or suffering. You will learn what to do in common emergency situations prior to seeking veterinary care. This class is for people only; participants should not bring their pets. With the help of a trained Siberian Husky, instructors will demonstrate various techniques for safely transporting injured animals, preventing illness and injury, CPR, restraint and transportation; how to address shock, internal and external bleeding, wound care, poison control, heat/cold injuries, parasites, administering meds and how to assemble an emergency first aid kit for your pet. Participants will receive a first aid guide and completion certificate. Hands-on practice by attendees is a course completion requirement. The Tundra Spirits 5-hour Pet First Aid Program has been enthusiastically received since its inception. Their members who have a background in first response, and emergency care have developed a class for the real world of pet emergencies. Their affiliation with veterinarian trauma care institutions of learning keeps them current on the latest techniques in small animal emergency care. All proceeds from the program directly fund the care of injured and terminally ill rescues through www.tundraspirits.org.
