Wednesday & Thursday, Oct. 1 & 2 at 7:30 p.m. — RUTLAND — Castleton presents a Denver’s Edge Theatre Company performance of “Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo” on Wednesday, Oct. 1 and Thursday, Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Paramount Theatre in Rutland.
“Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo,” by playwright Rajiv Joseph, was a 2009 finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Drama and won critical acclaim as a Broadway production starring Robin Williams in 2010-11.
The play is set in Baghdad immediately following the 2003 American invasion, and opens upon two GI’s who have been assigned to protect the tiger cage at the Baghdad Zoo. The tiger’s death initiates a series of events that cause each of the play’s seven characters to confront the very nature of war, language, culture and life.
This performance is the second of two Castleton Essential Artists events to be presented at Rutland’s historic Paramount Theatre as part of the Castleton Performing Arts Institute.
Tickets for this performance are $20 general admission, and are available through the Paramount Theatre at paramountvt.org. Note: This production contains violence, crude language, sexuality, and adult themes and is not recommended for audiences under 17 years of age.
