Tractor-trailer truck rolls over in Cornwall

CORNWALL—On Sept. 9 at about 5:30 a.m., state police from the New Haven barracks were dispatched to a report of a tractor-trailer rollover on Route 125 at the intersection with West Street. The Department of Motor Vehicles, the Cornwall Fire Department, and Middlebury Rescue also responded. The 2012 Kenworth with a tanker trailer was found on its side off the traveled portion of the roadway.

The truck and trailer sustained significant damage. The operator, Raymond Green, age 49, of Odgensburg, N. Y., was transported to Porter Hospital for evaluation. Green did not sustain any injuries in the crash. He had been wearing a seatbelt.

The tanker trailer was carrying 74,000 pounds of liquid whey. During the crash, the tanker was damaged and whey was leaking into the ditch. Vermont HAZMAT was notified.

The weather was clear and the road was dry. It was determined the accident was the result of Green’s speed being too fast to negotiate a curve. He was issued a civil ticket for the crash.

DMV is continuing its investigation regarding the commercial vehicle involvement. Anyone witnessing the crash is asked to contact Vermont State Police,  (802) 388-4919 or submit an anonymous tip by texting “CRIMES” (274637) with keyword: VTIPS, or at vsp.vermont.gov/tipsubmit.
