Feds distribute $2.1 million to health centers in Vermont

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced Friday that Vermont’s federally qualified health centers will receive $2.1 million in Affordable Care Act money.

The money will allow 10 health centers across Vermont to hire 47 new staff, extend hours and expand services, according to a news release from the federal agency.

Vermont’s health centers have aided the implementation the Affordable Care Act by helping patients sign up for coverage through the Vermont Health Connect exchange.

In Vermont, 11 health centers serve 132,768 patients, and according to the release, the federal money will allow them to reach 11,850 more.

Vermont health centers receiving grants are:

Battenkill Valley Health Center, Arlington, $187,000;

Community Health Center of Burlington, $232,544;

Community Health Centers of the Rutland Region, Bomoseen, $258,340;

Copley Professional Services Group, Morrisville, $222,030;

Five-Town Health Alliance, Bristol, $187,000;

Gifford Health Care, Randolph, $187,000;

Little Rivers Health Care, Bradford, $200,024;

Northeast Washington County Community Health, Plainfield, $205,064;

Richford Health Center, Richford, $213,424;

Springfield Medical Care System, Springfield, $225,100.
