Saturday, Sept. 20 at 10 a.m. — PLYMOUTH NOTCH — The President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site hosts the Plymouth Cheese & Harvest Festival on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Held annually since 1997, the day features wagon rides, craft demonstrations, special presentations, culinary treats, and activities for the entire family. A variety of events are scheduled throughout the day, including cheese making, wine/cider tasting and tours at the Plymouth Cheese Factory; old time fiddler Adam Boyce; children’s activities to include period games, corn husk dolls, paper hats, and more; sheep shearing and wagon rides with Fred DePaul; Vermont artisans making chairs, quilling and paper curling, chair caning and more; antique cars, and more throughout the day.
Special guests include Adam Boyce, Vermont fiddler & author, signing copies of his new book, “The Man from Vermont” at 11 a.m., and Laura Trieschmann, Director of the Vermont Division for Historic Preservation, presenting “Vermont in the Civil War: Plymouth Educators leading the United States Colored Troops” at 2 p.m. Ms. Trieschmann’s program complements this year’s special exhibit, “The Coolidges, Plymouth, and the Civil War,” which has been selected as a 2014 “Top 10 Event” by the Vermont Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission.
The event showcases the award-winning world of Vermont-made cheese. The Plymouth Cheese Factory, under the management of Plymouth Artisan Cheese, still produces the original granular curd Plymouth Cheese. Lunch at the site restaurant, Wilder House, will feature chowders, mac & cheese, corn bread, apple and pumpkin desserts, and other harvest recipes.
