Saturday, Sept. 13 at 12:30 p.m. — KILLINGTON — A tangy new event is joining the harvest festival circuit this month. The Vermont Cider Festival will debut on Saturday, Sept. 13 in Killington. The one-day inaugural event will take place under an elegant white tent at The Foundry at Summit Pond. Festival-goers will explore a comprehensive selection of New England crafted ciders, both hard and natural, as well as a sampling of meads and ice wines. Locally harvested apples, and award-winning Vermont artisan cheeses will also be set up for tasting and purchase. Festival hours will be from 12:30 – 5 p.m., with registration beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Foundry owner and festival founder Chris Karr is hoping the new event will become a perennial favorite ,as the Killington Wine Festival and the Killington Brewfest have both become. “We created The Vermont Cider Festival to celebrate the art of New England cider-making, a tradition that is experiencing huge growth right here in Vermont,” says Karr. “As a matter of fact, artisan cider has been recognized as the fastest-growing segment of the craft beverage industry. We think that calls for a festival.”
Over 50 different brands of crafted hard ciders are confirmed for the festival, including Citizen Cider, Woodchuck Cider, Stowe Cider, Angry Orchard, and many more. Entertainment will include Vermont bluegrass music by The Bondville Boys. There will also be a diving exhibition and competition on the property by The Foundry Fly Dogs in Summit Pond.
Advance tickets are $25 for adults 21 and older, and are available at vermontciderfestival.com. Tickets are $30 the day of the festival. Admission includes a souvenir tasting glass, full color festival guide, unlimited sampling of 50+ ciders, food samplings and passed appetizers, and live entertainment. A special “Designated Driver” admission is also available the day of the festival for $10. There is no admission charge to watch The Foundry Fly Dogs exhibition.
