Former FBI director injured in crash in Barnard

Louis Freeh, the former director of the FBI was injured in a crash in Vermont on Monday afternoon.

Freeh was airlifted to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., for treatment. USA Today reported that he was seriously injured. Freeh was FBI director from 1993 to 2001 during which time he investigated the crash of TWA 800 and the Unabomber, among other cases.

Rescuers from the Vermont State Police and Barnard rescue and fire personnel responded to the scene immediately.

Vermont State Police reported that Freeh was traveling on Route 12 in Barnard when he drove his GMC Yukon off the roadway, struck a mailbox and a row of shrubs before his vehicle came to a rest on the side of a tree.

The crash is under investigation. Freeh was wearing a seatbelt.
