Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 5:30 p.m. — RUTLAND — The GMP College Connections series is hosting a presentation on Energy in Aviation on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at the Energy Innovation Center, 68-70 Merchants Row in downtown Rutland. The free public event begins at 5:30 p.m. and will last approximately an hour. Light refreshments will be served.
Lecturer Craig Popkess of Community College of Vermont (CCV) will give a talk entitled, “Energy in Aviation: How Fuel Efficient is Air Travel?” The presentation will review the efficiency improvements in air travel, from the Douglas DC-3 to the Boeing 787 and the Airbus A-380. How many miles-per-gallon does a Jetliner get? Is air travel more fuel efficient than driving?
Popkess is a retired airline captain (Pan American World Airways and Delta Airlines). He teaches several courses at CCV, including mathematics, technology, management, communications and leadership. Popkess received his B.A. in Education and Speech from Northeastern Oklahoma State University, and a Master of Aeronautical Science (MAS) from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Popkess also serves as the Internship Coordinator for Career Training Programs at CCV.
