Pyramid Fitness welcomes new owners, Bova and Murphy

RUTLAND — On Aug. 9, Bill Kelley of Pyramid Holistic Wellness Center announced that Fred Bova and Lori Murphy are the new owners of Pyramid Fitness, formerly a branch of the wellness center.

“When we opened Pyramid Fitness almost four years ago, it was because I saw a need in our community for high-quality fitness offerings that were affordable. It was my dream to open a place that would offer top-notch services that really worked, a place where people could come and feel welcome and connect with others who wanted to work on their well-being,” Kelley explained. Adding that while Pyramid Fitness “was an extension of the services we offered at Pyramid Wellness, I knew from the day that I opened it that I would not always be the owner. I knew that it was just my job to help create the place so that someday others could take over and bring it to the next level. For the last two years especially, I have been quietly watching and waiting for the right guardians of Pyramid Fitness to appear, and I am pleased to announce that these guardians have arrived.”

Fred Bova has a background in engineering and Lori Murphy has a background in accounting. While they both bring a wealth of business know-how, more importantly “they bring passion and heart, and a strong desire to continue Pyramid Fitness with the spirit that it was started,” said Kelley. “They are incredibly community-minded and have the time and energy to really help P-Fit grow. They are also both deeply excited about physical fitness and holistic wellness.”

To start, the new owners plan to assess what is working well at the center and note areas they can improve and change. While they don’t plan to make major changes immediately, some things they hope implement soon include extended hours, additional equipment, and a new check-in system. Bova and Murphy are committed to the affordability of the Pyramid mission and have no plans to increase membership prices.

“Since the day Pyramid Fitness opened, we have not raised prices, and this is not likely to change in the near future,” Kelly said.

To celebrate the change of ownership, Pyramid is adding value to its membership with free daily oxygen sessions at the Aromatherapy Station (the only fitness center in Vermont that offers oxygen to its members.)

Other exciting developments include Pyramid Fitness’s growing virtual studio. With 19 classes already on the web and more added each week, this means that if you cannot make it to class, you can watch it later on a computer, or even download it to your tablet or smart phone anywhere, anytime! Pyramid Fitness is currently the only live fitness facility in Vermont offering such extensive virtual options.

Billy Kelley will continue to teach at Pyramid Fitness. “Although I may have to make some small adjustments to my teaching schedule over time, you can expect to see me at Pyramid Fitness regularly, as well as virtually through the online studio,” Kelly said. “And because Fred and Lori want to continue working with Pyramid Wellness, you will see many of our services offered in an integrated format.”

Knowing his members and P-Fit are in good hands and poised to grow and thrive for years and years to come, Kelley says, “I feel comfortable stepping down as the owner and turning the responsibility over to Fred and Lori. And as I turn my energy to other projects, you can bet that I will continue to love and support P-Fit… I’d like to send out a sincere thanks for helping me create a place where people can affordably reach their fitness and wellness goals.”
