PITTSFIELD — Come celebrate the end of summer at the annual Pittsfield’s Picnic held this year on Sunday, Aug. 24 from 12:30-4 p.m.
This gathering on the town green originated from necessity immediately after Tropical Storm Irene, when local businesses had no power for refrigeration. One year later, an anniversary party called Pittsfield’s Town Shut Down (PTSD), was held commemorating our town’s community strength during and after the storm. In 2013, it was re-named Pittsfield’s Picnic and has now become “an annual potluck event to reconnect our neighbors and new and old friends from near and far,” said Erica Hurd, event organizer.
A horseshoe tournament, cookbook sales and a silent auction will help raise money for playground area improvements.
The day’s agenda:
12:30 pm. ‘till food is gone — Potluck Picnic: Bring a dish to share and a blanket or a lawn chair. Hamburgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, water, ice cream and hot fudge from Vermont Sundae Sauce Company are provided. Donations appreciated.
12:30-3:30 p.m. — Silent Auction
1-2 p.m. — Musical performance by Woodchucks Revenge
2:00-4 p.m. — Horseshoe Tournament, $5 per person, team play. Organizers will create pairs for single players. Trophies will be awarded to first through third place teams.
1:00-4:00 p.m. — Athletic activities scheduled for all ages with Coach LaBella, in the field behind Town Hall.
1-4 p.m. Dunk tank – good clean fun. 3 balls/$1, costumes encouraged.
