Aug. 9-10 — KILLINGTON — The Town of Killington will host its fi rst skateboard, streetluge, and drift trike freeride on East Mountain Road, Aug. 9-10. Roughly 100 riders from across the country will travel to the heart of the Green Mountains to experience two miles of one of the steepest roadways in town. Reaching speeds of over 50 mph, gravity lovers have a new reason to visit Vermont this summer. “We are excited to host the inaugural Downhill Throwdown,” says Amy Morrison, Events and Marketing Coordinator for the Town of Killington, “Many competitors are avid snowboarders or skiers and the event fi ts perfectly in the adventure sports lifestyle of Killington.” Registration for the event is $152 for the following classes: Open Pro, Open Expert, Luge, Women, Junior, Grom, Masters, and Drift Trikes. The event begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, with an after party at Darkside Snowboards on Killington Road following the event. The event resumes Sunday, Aug. 10 at 10 a.m. and concludes at 5:30 pm. East Mountain Road will be closed to through traffi c during the event from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 9-10. Killington Police Department will be stationed at the beginning and end of the course to allow for safe vehicle passage between each round of competitors (approximately every 20 minutes throughout the day). The Downhill Throwdown is a part of the Push Culture Cup Downhill Race Series, produced by Dean Events, LLC and Gravity Racing, and is sponsored by the Town of Killington.
