KMS Freestyle Program Director Matt Gnoza accepts job with the US Ski Team

KILLINGTON — Killington Mountain School Freestyle Program Director Matt Gnoza has accepted a job with the US Ski Team, and will begin working for them August 1, Head of School Tao Smith confirmed in a letter to the KMS community, July 17.

“While this news caught many of us unaware, Matt’s team appointment comes as no surprise,” Smith wrote. “Matt has been consistently pursued by the USST, as he is one of the most capable and professional coaches in the country. Many of us here at KMS knew it would only be a matter of time before Matt finally said, ‘Yes.’”

After 20 years at Killington, Matt Gnoza will be the new C Team Head Coach, and Director of Development for the domestic freestyle program. In addition to running the pipeline program for the US Ski Team, Gnoza will be in charge of creating a new system for coaches’ education and the development of youth competition in the country.

“As Matt and I have discussed in recent weeks, the primary consideration through this transition has been making sure that Matt leaves the program in capable hands; someone who can carry on the strong tradition of Freestyle skiing at Killington at the highest levels, and ensure the development of our younger athletes who are just beginning their athletic careers,” Smith continued.

KMS has hired Glenn Eddy to fulfill that role as the next KMS Freestyle Program Director.  Eddy is a Killington program, and KMS alum. He was one of the pioneers of the sport at Killington, and skied World Cup with the US Ski Team from 1981-83. In 1983, Glenn graduated from Dartmouth College, and then went on to complete his J.D. from Boston University. Eddy then went on to be a freestyle coach at Winter Park and Carabassett Valley Academy from 1983-97, before being named the Freestyle Program Director at CVA, which he ran from 1997-2007. Most recently, Eddy has been coaching in Park City, Utah, working with elite PG competitors aiming for the US Ski Team.

In addition to coaching, Glenn Eddy sits on many regional and national boards. He is on the USSA Board of Directors, as the Freestyle/Freeskiing Rep, and is a World Cup certified Technical Delegate. Glenn is active in the development of both moguls and freesking athletes, and will be leading these programs in his new role at KMS.
