Saturday, July 26 at 7:30 p.m. — BRANDON — Jonathan Lorentz and his Trio return to Brandon Music on Saturday, July 26 for a 7:30 p.m. Known primarily as a jazz saxophonist, Lorentz is currently performing gospel, spirituals, and blues, a concept he calls the “Soul Revival.”
A native of Shrewsbury, Vermont and graduate of Mill River Union High School (where he studied with Glenn Giles and Bear Irwin), Lorentz’s development in the Rutland region is very much evident in his current music. His earliest live band experiences with Shrewsbury’s Muddy Roads Blues Band, founded by the late guitarist Tom “About Right” Mitchell, are still echoed in his blues-heavy sets.
The trio includes Lorentz with Andy Carballeira on keys, and drummer Gabe Jarrett, both of whom have performed extensively on the blues, jazz, and rock circuit.
Lorentz says he’s excited to reunite with his teacher, trombonist Bear Irwin, who will be a special guest. A champion of the Vermont music scene, Mr. Irwin performs with countless bands, including the Vermont Jazz Ensemble, Satin & Steel, and Dr. Burma.
Concert tickets are $15. Venue is BYOB. Brandon Music is located at 62 Country Club Rd., Brandon.
