Rejoin them on Friday, July 18 from 7-8 p.m. for a lecture given by the other featured sculptor in “Pulsation,” Eric David Laxman. Wine will be served. Meet the artists and learn about their process!
Eric Laxman’s career in art began at Rockland Center for the Arts where he took art classes and served on the exhibition committee. He enrolled into Tufts University to study medicine but his interest in art changed his course when he took a stone carving class with B. Amore and fell in love with marble. He then enrolled in the School of Museum of Fine Art where he studied for two and half years. He left school to pursue his art, moving to Vermont and co-founding the Carving Studio in West Rutland. His current exhibit, being in Rutland, shows his strong ties to our community. Eric now resides in New York with his his family and his studio is located at Garnerville Arts and Industrial Center in the lower Hudson valley.
Influenced by early modern art, tribal art and Greek, Egyptian and Buddhist sculpture, Eric creates substantial, but elegant pieces but with a twist. His marriage of stone and metal was the turning point in his career and it wasn’t until later he began to use found objects- rebar, tires, twisted pipes and parts with the stone from quarries he digs fir himself. His studio is cluttered with his finds until he’s ready to incorporate them into a piece.
