13-year -old wins men’s club championship at GMNGC

MENDON – It’s been quite a week for the soon-to-be eighth-grader from Mendon. Logan Broyles aced the 177-yard 12th hole at Rutland Country Club on Aug. 9, then headed up to Green Mountain National Golf Club where he won the two-day stroke play Men’s Club Championship on Aug. 11.

Broyles shot 73 and 74 at the challenging mountain course against a field of seasoned Green Mountain National veterans. He is the youngest club champion in Green Mountain National Golf Club history.

“It’s been an amazing summer. I’ve played on the Vermont Junior Tour and traveled to Pinehurst and California for tournaments. This last week has definitely been a highlight,” said Broyles.

This summer Logan represented Vermont in the National PGA Drive, Chip & Putt competition in Plymouth, Mass., and played in the US KIDS GOLF Teen World Championship in Pinehurst, N. C., where he finished 39th out of 150 contestants. He won a US KIDS Golf event in Los Angeles and recorded a win at Rutland Country Club in a VT Junior event.
