Sunday, Aug. 28 at 11:30 a.m.—ROCHESTER—This year marks Tropical Storm Irene’s fifth anniversary, and Rebuild Rochester invites the public to join in a celebration of community spirit and ongoing activism in Rochester Town Park, Sunday, Aug. 28, from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Schedule of events
11 a.m.-1 p.m.: New town park dedication by Larry Straus, Select Board chair during Irene. Unveiling of the sculpture “The Turbulence of Irene” by Jeffrey Breslow, presented by Anni Mackay
1-3 p.m.: An old timey pot-luck picnic on the Rochester Town Park with master of ceremonies Doon Hinderyckx, current Select Board chair. BYO picnic style seating/cup/plate/fork
4-6 p.m.: Library programming, including local photographer Jerry LeBlond’s images from Irene and Tracy Winn reading Irene stories
There will be music all afternoon until 6 p.m.—bring an instrument!
Rebuild Rochester was created in the aftermath of Irene to raise money for the community, having successfully distributed almost $300,000 to its hardest hit families and continues to this day to serve the neediest valley residents. This event is made possible by the Rebuild Rochester Foundation, and other community organizations and citizens of the Quintown Valley of Route 100: Granville, Hancock, Rochester, Stockbridge and Pittsfield.
