Going to the birds

By Paul Holmes

KILLINGTON — On Saturday, June 13, Kent Pond in Killington was a flurry with avian excitement. For the last few years Kent Pond has been home to a loon family. This year, the adult loon couple, who have a nest on the island, have welcomed newborn fluffy chicks. They are just beginning to experiencing their first adventures on water. On Saturday morning, mom was still on the nest when dad returned with small fish to feed the chicks. Later that afternoon, around 2 p.m. the little ones ventured out onto the water for their first swim.
