Monday, Jan. 25 — The Vermont Symphony Orchestra’s “Fanfare” Brass Trio will present performances at three area schools on Jan. 25 (see schedule below). These performances are made possible by the John McLure Memorial Fund.

Fanfare members Angela Gosse, trumpet, Ron Wold, French horn, and Bear Irwin, trombone, present a program called “Galactic Brass.” They play a variety of musical styles and demonstrate how the instruments produce their sounds and how each one has changed since its beginnings.  This rave review from a school is typical: “Fanfare’s performance was entertaining, informative, and tuned in to the attention spans and interests of young children. Our students were a rapt audience, even on the day before vacation!”

These performances are part of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra’s statewide SymphonyKids education program, which reached over 23,000 schoolchildren last year with 266 presentations serving 151 schools in 113 different communities. The VSO’s traveling ensembles visit all corners of the state as part of an outreach program known as the Lois H. McClure “Musicians-in-the-Schools” Program. These lively concerts are met with overwhelming enthusiasm, as the musical ambassadors spread the word that classical music can be fun!

Schedule:

Chester-Andover Elementary School, 9 a.m.

Cavendish Town School, 10:45 a.m.

Albert Bridge School (Brownsville), 1 p.m.
The Vermont Symphony Orchestra is the only professional statewide orchestra providing live musical experiences for listeners in Vermont. It is a state-supported non-profit institution founded in 1935 and exists for the purpose of fostering and encouraging the appreciation of music in all its various forms, with emphasis on orchestral, choral and chamber music.
