Sunday, July 31 at 1 p.m.—QUECHEE—The Vermont Institute of Natural Science presents Nature Walk with Arthur Haines on Sunday, July 31 from 1 to 4 p.m., at VINS’ Old Pepper Place Nature Reserve in Washington, Vt. The Nature Reserve is a stunning, biologically diverse parcel of land set on 327 acres. Spend a fascinating afternoon in the fens and surrounding forests and fields with instructor Arthur Haines, author of “Flora Novae Angliae.” Learn about the Nature Reserve’s natural history with an emphasis on plant life and identification. Discuss the geology and ecology of the area, watch birds, look for edible plants, and interpret tracks and other signs of wildlife. The program is presented in partnership with the New England Wild Flower Society.

Participants should come prepared for the weather and uneven terrain, wearing proper footwear and clothing. Bring a packed lunch and water. A hand lens and set of binoculars are suggested. The cost of the program is $28 for members of VINS or the New England Wild Flower Society and $35 for non-members.
