Vermont artist Joan Curtis to be featured at Castleton Downtown Gallery

Friday, June 19 at 6 p.m. — RUTLAND — The Castleton Downtown Gallery in Rutland will feature the works of local Vermont artist Joan Curtis running from June 10 through July 11, with an artist reception scheduled for Friday, June 19 at 6 p.m.

Entitled “Rough Edges: Recent Explorations,” the exhibit will feature an array of mixed media and paper-mâché pieces, as well as figurative work.

The exhibit documents a tentative transition from narrative art to nonfigurative sculptures.

“What interests me at present is making small abstract sculptures that, in their color and composition, have an appeal solely on the basis of beauty, even if somewhat eccentric,” said Curtis.

The Castleton Downtown Gallery is located on Center Street Alley in Rutland and is open Wednesday through Saturday with hours of operation from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
