Tour de Slate 2020 adapts

Saturday, August 1—MIDDLETOWN SPRINGS—Tour de Slate 2020 is going to happen! The annual bike ride to benefit addiction recovery has been postponed until Aug. 1.

That being said, organizers are acutely aware that this will be a very different event.

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, they will have to adjust the event in order to maximize all efforts to provide a safe environment in which everyone can play. The most significant impact of this will be the social events on the green.

Here are some things to expect

You will have your temperature taken with a no touch device. If you have a fever you will be asked to leave.

The social distancing rule will be in place for everyone on the green.

You will be expected to wear a mask when on the green.

Food servers will wear masks and gloves.

Your goodie bags will be pre-stuffed.When filling drink bottles at rest stops the hosts will fill your bottle as you hold it.

Please avoid riding in a paceline. Space yourselves out.

These are just some of the things that they are considering. As the situation changes, they too will adapt to that change.

As mentioned previously, because of the wide economic shutdown, commercial sponsorships and donations are way off from earlier expectations. Therefore they are trying to mitigate this by increasing the rider base and encouraging riders to do more personal fund raising. Whatever you can do will help and is appreciated.

Register to ride at tourdeslate.org.

Another way in which you can help is to get the word out in your local area of social interaction. They have promo info that can be mailed to you or can email you digital files if you’d like to print your own.

The enemy has not taken a “time out” during this pandemic. Teen Challenge’s work continues on and your help is needed now more than ever. They also have had their fund raising efforts greatly reduced.

Please be aware that Tour de Slate, Inc., is now a non profit 501(c)3 approved organization with IRS. In many instances this will help your fundraising.
