Thanks for bringing the World Cup to Killington

Dear Editor,
As I reflect on this World Cup weekend, I would like to offer my greatest thanks to Killington Resort and the volunteers that made this event a success. Without the town, the resort and the business community working together, this international skiing competition would have been near impossible to pull off.
Very rarely can I say I experienced a “Bigger than Life” event at Killington, but being at the World Cup at Killington this weekend was one of those times. Having a ski racing background I have attended a couple World Cup venues in the past. I can confidently say, the energy displayed at Killington was so much more vibrant than I had experienced elsewhere.
I’ve heard mixed reviews in the community on the effect the event had on business to their respective establishments. We must all understand, financially and strategically, the sacrifices the resort made in bringing this event to our area. They did this with great risk considering our unpredictable past snowfall amounts at this time of year. The commitment by the resort to capture this event placed Killington on the global map allowing millions of people to see what a wonderful venue we do offer. We must ask, “How many times was the word KILLINGTON used in how many countries?” This is the big picture that we take away from this weekend.
Let’s continue to work together as a community so great things like this will happen in the future.
Again, I thank Powdr Corp. for their continued effort to make these types of investments and make our resort community a sought-after venue for people looking to recreate.
Thanks,
Howard Smith, president of the Killington Pico Area Association
