Summer Festival Tour takes to the hills of Vt. with “Wanderlust,” picnics, pops, and fireworks

The backdrop at Stowe is not unlike others to be seen during the VSO’s summer festival tour, a yearly event that is performed in outdoor settings throughout Vermont.

CHITTENDEN, SO. POMFRET — The Vermont Symphony Orchestra and TD Bank bring the 2016 Summer Festival Tour to the hills of Mountain Top Inn and Resort on Thursday, June 30. Gates open for a barbecue between 5 and 7 p.m., followed by the concert at 7:30. Barbecue tickets are $24 per adult and $12 per child, available through Mountain Top. On Friday, July 1, Pentangle Arts and the VSO proudly unite for a fifth consecutive year to co-present the TD Bank Summer Festival Tour at the Suicide Six ski area in South Pomfret. Bring a picnic and nestle among the historic hills for this family-friendly concert.Gates open at 5:30 p.m. for picnicking and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. For tickets, visit pentanglearts.org or call 802-457-3981.

In keeping with its title, this year’s program will transport listeners from the Great Wall to a gypsy encampment to the far reaches of the universe. The travelogue concludes with the “1812 Overture,” marches and fireworks.

Principal Guest Conductor Anthony Princiotti will once again lead the orchestra through a whirlwind program that includes Li Huanzhi, “Spring Festival Overture”; Brahms, “Hungarian Dances”; Holst, “Mars” from “The Planets”; Enesco, “Rumanian Rhapsody No. 1”; Offenbach (arr. Burden), “Can-Can” from “Ballet Parisienne”; “Star Wars” medley; Tchaikovsky, “1812 Overture,” and more.

“There’s something truly magical about experiencing outdoor live music on a warm summer evening in Vermont,” said VSO Executive Director Benjamin Cadwallader.
