Stone bench to be dedicated at Brandon Town Green, Sunday

Sunday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m.—BRANDON—The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center announces the dedication of a public artwork on Sunday, Oct. 9, 1 p.m. in Brandon’s Kennedy Park, what will be a permanent installation. Led by master sculptor Nora Valdez, a team of teen carvers created the bench this past summer. The group includes Elijah Brown, Andre Greb, Ella Kearns, Serena Nettleton, Jadella Rivers, Tin Skoric and Emily Wight.
The Stone Bench Project is a Carving Studio and Sculpture Center program that began in Ayacucho, Peru during January 2009. Subsequent years have seen development of opportunities for Rutland area teens to connect with their region’s cultural heritage. Teamwork is built as students cooperatively develop a theme, produce a scale model in clay and carve the limestone blocks. The finished benches are given to partnering municipalities for placement in the community.
