Slash and Berm banked slalom brings snowboard community to Killington

Friday-Sunday, March 6-9—KILLINGTON—The Slash and Berm banked slalom returns to Killington for its seventh year this weekend.

The race, which snakes through a creative and challenging course in the Stash park, will run for three days, beginning with the invite-only team event on Friday, March 6. The event benefits the Burton Chill Foundation.

In the past, courses have included such unexpected features as a gator pit (luckily the reptiles were inflatable) and a mid-course stair set.

Competitors must stay on their feet while snaking through the woods, over jumps and across icy berms, in hopes of putting down one of the quickest times of the day.

The team event on Friday brings together local shops, media and other industry insiders for some good-hearted competition. The rivalry is fierce, especially between local shops the Darkside and Surf the Earth, who have traded top honors over the past few years.

The team event combines the team’s top times to determine a winner. Four team members will take two runs each, the top 3 individual times are combined for best time.

On Friday at 5 p.m., the Darkside Killington invites all to the Dark Park for a free BBQ and pre-registration event. To top it all off, Darkside will be hosting a binding-less banked slalom in the Dark Park on Burton throwback boards. The top 3 times from each division (Open Men, Open Women and Open Grom) will win prizes, and the top time for each division will get a free entry (excluding Chill donation) into Saturday or Sunday’s Slash and Berm event. Once the races end, the Dark Park will open for a friendly jam session for anyone who wants to ride.

Saturday’s race is open to anyone over 13. The best of two individual times will win. Check-in will be held on the 3rd floor of the Bear Mountain Fuel TV Lounge from 8-9:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Competitors are divided into Open Mens and Womens (13+), Legends Mens and Womens (40+) and an amateur combined category. Entry Fee is $60 for the Open Division, which includes a lift ticket and lunch.  Killington season pass holders may enter for $40, which does not include a lift ticket, (please use promo code KSPASS to receive your discount.)

New for 2020, a grom event for those under the age 13 will be held on Sunday in the Li’l Stash on Ramshead. Groms (10-13) and super groms (9 and under) are invited to compete. The entry fee is $30 for the grom divisions, which includes a lift ticket.  Killington season pass holders may enter at $15, which does not include a lift ticket,(use promo code KGROM to receive your discount.) Sunday check-in will be held on the third floor of the Ramshead Base Lodge from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. No registration/check-ins will be taken after 9:30 a.m.

Helmets are required for all competitors.
