Rutland Rec offers camps for kids starting July 6

RUTLAND — Through the Rutland Recreation and Parks Department, children have a plethora of summer camps coming up that will keep their week full.

Hands on Minds On Art Studio Art Camps are offered this summer, including “Animal Jam” for grades 3-5. Artists will draw, sketch, paint, collage and sculpt with clay their favorite animal and will create 2-D and 3-D artwork. Camp runs July 6-10 from 1-4 p.m. and costs $105 for residents and $116 for non-residents.

Another art camp offered July 6-10 is “Hands On Mixed Media Art.” Campers will explore many art-making methods both traditional and modern while using a variety of materials including paints, collage, mosaics, fabrics and more. Open to ages 4-6 years, camp runs 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and the fee is $105 for residents, $116 non-residents. Football Skills Camp is for both beginner and experienced players in grades 5-8. Participants will learn the fun and fundamentals of football while receiving instruction in both offensive and defensive tactics. Camp runs July 6-10 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Fees are $78 residents, $89 non-residents.

Flipside Skate Park is offering a skateboard camp from July 6-10 and is open to ages 6-15. Whether just learning how to skateboard or already riding the mini-ramp, improve your skills! Learn new techniques and tricks on ramps, rails and jumps. One-on-one teaching time, group games, fun activities and video analysis are all a part of this camp, running 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Fees are $90 resident, $102 non-residents.

Led by PGA Professional Tom Stevens, a golf camp will focus on fundamentals, swing theory, rules and etiquette. Open to ages 8-15 and all levels of players, participants will receive at 2015 season membership to Pinewoods Golf Range. Rutland Rec Department will supply clubs if you do not have your own. Camp runs July 6-10 from 9-10:30 a.m. Cost is $99 resident and $111 for non-residents.
