Rutland Rec Department begins new season of activities

RUTLAND — Rutland Recreation and Parks Department will begin two new programs this week: indoor sports and tot trop-in.

The 2015 indoor season at Giorgetti Arena will begin the week of March 9 with programs including youth indoor lacrosse, soccer, field hockey and flag football; as well as adult indoor leagues including field hockey, women’s 30+ soccer, and men’s open soccer. Team registration packets are available at rutlandrec.com. Adult soccer players looking for drop-in opportunities can join the men’s 35+ and coed 18+ drop-in time on Thursdays beginning March 12.

Looking for something to do with your little ones on Saturday mornings? Bring them to the indoor turf field and let them have a ball, literally! Beginning March 14 and running until April 25, Giorgetti Arena will host a tot drop-in from  10 a.m. – 11 a.m. This drop-in hour is unstructured time for kids 18 months to 4 years to just be kids and play around with balls, tunnels and other age appropriate items. Tots can burn some energy while developing gross motor skills. Fee is $5 per child; $10 per family, per day.

Held at Godnick Adult Center, the chess club provides a mind-enhancing skill not only to youth but adults as well. The club will teach anyone who is willing to learn. All ages are welcome and is open to the public, held Thursday evenings, 7 – 9 p.m. at Godnick Adult Center.
